Take a glimpse at new works-in-progress by two exciting and innovative theatre companies:
Hotel New Work allows two companies the chance to open the doors of their rehearsals and invite spectators into the creative process. Theaterlab provides these companies with one week “mini-residencies” to develop a work early in its conception. During the first six days of the residency, the companies receive rehearsal space in Theaterlab’s beautiful white box studios in Midtown Manhattan. On Sunday, Theaterlab will open its doors and guide audiences through the space to view two iterations of both works in progress. Spectators are encouraged to engage in creative conversations, focusing on exploring possibilities for the work’s future. Hotel New Work culminates with a reception and continued creative dialogue.
Join us at Theaterlab on February 22nd, as Loading Dock and This is Not A Theatre Company open the doors to their latest works-in progress:
Loading Dock presents The Trojans, a retelling of the Trojan War through the lens of an 80s high school movie. The play utilizes original retro synthesizer music and video game footage to convey a world seeped in football, cars, monsters, love and violence
This is Not A Theatre Company presents Readymade Cabaret. Readymade Cabaret uses Ducamp’s notions of chance and readymades to celebrate the beauty of chance encounters. The scenes that are performed, and the order in which they are performed, depend on the roll of the dice; so in any given performance, the audience sees 1 of 39,916,800 possible plays.
